NewsKurt Cobain biopic features REM, Iggy PopThe soundtrack to the film 'Kurt Cobain About A Son' will feature tracks from REM, Iggy Pop and David Bowie as well as several other bands that reportedly influenced the Nirvana frontman. The soundtrack, due out in the US on September 11 via Barsuk, will also include a new song by Death Cab For Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard, who also composed an original score for the film along with producer Steve Fisk. Although the soundtrack will not feature any songs from Nirvana, it will feature excerpts of audio-taped interviews with Cobain. The film, due out in late 2007, features several rare interviews with the singer, as well as footage of sites in the Pacific Northwest that played a major role in his life. The tracklisting is: Steve Fisk and Benjamin Gibbard - 'Overture' Never Intended (interview clip) Arlo Guthrie - 'Motorcycle Song' The Melvins - 'Eye Flys' Punk Rock (interview clip) Bad Brains - 'Banned In D.C.' In a posting on Nine Inch Nails' website, Reznor said that the pricing is 'absurd' and accused the label of ripping off the band's fans. Reznor wrote: "As the climate grows more and more desperate for record labels, their answer to their mostly self-inflicted wounds seems to be to screw the consumer over even more." As an example, Reznor cited the "absurd" retail pricing of 'Year Zero' in Australia. He wrote, "Shame on you, UMG. 'Year Zero' is selling for $34.99 Australian dollars ($29.10 US). No wonder people steal music. Avril Lavigne's record in the same store was $21.99 ($18.21 US)." Reznor continued: "When I asked a label rep about this his response was: 'It's because we know you have a real core audience that will pay whatever it costs when you put something out - you know, true fans. It's the pop stuff we have to discount to get people to buy.' So... I guess as a reward for being a 'true fan' you get ripped off." He concluded by saying that Nine Inch Nails are planning to release a full-length remix collection, with details to come soon. |
